According to the arrest report, on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at about 3:45 a.m., a vehicle driven by Leland was southbound on US 301, approaching 15th Street East.

Deputy Wolfinger and K-9 Rex were behind the Ford Crown Victoria, which activated its right turn signal as they came up to the red light at 15th Street East.

The driver didn't slow down or stop as he made the turn and one of his rear taillights was broken, showing bright white light, instead of red.

Dep. Wolfinger initiated a traffic stop.

As the driver, identified as Leland, opened his door, Dep. Wolfinger saw smoke inside the vehicle and smelled the strong odor of a cologne or body spray coming from the interior of the vehicle.

Dep. Wolfinger discovered Leland's license had been suspended for failure to support on June 14, 2010.

As Leland was taken into custody, Dep. Wolfinger noticed a 1-inch cut on the top of Leland's thumb where it meets his hand.

Dep. Wolfinger discovered Leland was under a Domestic Violence Injunction and that one of the conditions is that he not possess any firearms.

Leland was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm in Violation of Injunction, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving While License Suspended.

Woman Missing Two Years;
Detectives Say Foul Play
is Suspected

ANNA MARIA, Florida [NMT/Islander] -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office still wants to know what happened to Sabine Musil-Buehler, who went missing 2 years ago on November 4, 2008. This Thursday is the 2-year anniversary of that date.

Above, Sabine Musil-Buehler

Musil-Buehler was 49 at the time of her disappearance and had a reputation as an active volunteer on the Island — a doer involved in promoting the business community, protecting the environment and wildlife, rescuing pets and caring for children.

Law enforcement officials believe that by the time word was out that Musil-Buehler was missing, she was dead.

Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube has said detectives believe she is dead.

The first Manatee County Sheriff's Office notice about Musil-Buehler in November 2008 indicated she was missing — that she was last seen Nov. 5 in the area of 14th Street West in Bradenton and that foul play was not suspected in her disappearance.

Missing person notices that went into national and international networks described Musil-Buehler as petite, about 120 pounds, 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with silver hair, braces on her teeth, a German accent and possibly wearing a floral-print top and Converse sneakers.

Then her car was found abandoned near a seedy area on 14th Street West. There was blood on the upholstery.

And the mystery stalls there. Nobody has seen her since Nov. 5th and her body hasn't turned up.

Dave Bristow, spokesman for the sheriff's office told NewsManatee, "We're still actively working the case. But our leads have dried up. We're hoping that media reports on the anniversary of her disappearance will jog someone's memory and they will come forth."

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to call the Manatee County Sheriff's Office at (941) 747-3011 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-634-TIPS (8477) -- or, to provide an anonymous e-Tip by computer, .

Mom Arrested for Child Neglect
for Failing to Report Rape,
Sodomy of Family Member by
Husband

MANATEE COUNTY, Florida [NMT] -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has arrested Regina Brown, 35, of Parrish.

Above, L to R, Regina Brown and Gerald Demetric Bell

As NewsManatee reported on Oct. 21st, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office arrested Gerald Demetric Bell, 34, of Parrish, on Oct. 19, 2010.

A report from the sheriff's office had said on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, the sheriff's office received information that the victim, a girl who is now 16, had been molested by "a family member."

The incidents started when the girl was 11 and continued until she was 14, the report had said.

It turns out that the incidents came to light when the now 16-year-old girl had read an essay about the incidents, according to a new sheriff's report, describing in details what Bell had done to her, including that she had been raped and sodomized. The incidents and the essay were reported to the sheriff's office.

Subsequent investigation by Sheriff's Detective James Wischer provided details of several incidents where Bell had molested the girl.

Two earlier incidents occurred in Sarasota County when the family was living there, and those charges are pending investigation by Sarasota authorities.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office charged Bell with 3 counts of Sexual Battery by a Familial Authority and 7 separate counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation.

Bell remains in the Manatee County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bail bond.

At the time of his arrest, Bell was employed by the Boys and Girls Club of Manatee County. At this time, there is no evidence of Bell being involved in any criminal acts while working at the Boys and Girls Club.

Then, on Oct. 23, 2010, Regina Brown took the family member to the Manatee County Jail to see Bell.

Detectives interviewed Brown later that day and learned that the family member had told Brown about the incidents and Brown had not reported them to authorities and never got therapy for the girl. When she was told about the family member's essay by Det. Wischer, Brown didn't seem surprised.

That same day detectives arrested Brown and charged her with Child Neglect for failure to protect the girl from physical, mental or sexual injury caused by another's acts. She was also charged with Tampering with a Witness for taking the girl to jail to see defendant Bell.

Brown has since been released from the Manatee County Jail after posting a $1,000 bail bond.

It is unknown what became of the custody of the 16-year-old girl.

Valued at $35,000

According to the arrest report, on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, deputies were called to a residence in the 22400 block of 75th Avenue East, Bradenton, regarding the theft of jewelry. Two rings, valued at about $35,000 had gone missing from a safe at the residence.

While a deputy was conducting the investigation, he saw Lambert throw away a Newport cigarette pack into a garbage can in the kitchen.

Upon arrival of Det. Carpenter, Lambert allowed her to search her and her belongings for the rings, but they were not found at that time. The first deputy then went into the garbage can to check the empty Newport cigarette pack for the rings and found two small packages of a tan-brown colored powdery looking substance inside the cigarette pack.

Det. Carpenter then checked the garbage for any other cigarette packs and the rings, with negative results.

Then, while at the jail, she had to go through a metal detector and it sounded. Deputies found several pieces of jewelry in the waistband of Lambert's jail clothing, including the two rings.

Det. Carpenter returned to the jail and interviewed Lambert.

Lambert said that she had the jewelry in her butt cheeks at the house and had moved it to her jail clothing. She said some of the jewelry belonged to her dead sister and the rings were the theft victim's. She also said she had learned the combination of the victim's safe while she was at his home. She said the reason she was hiding the jewelry was that she had some taken when she was previously arrested in Atlanta.

Mom Pleads Guilty To Shaking
Baby To Death Over Farmville

JACKSONVILLE, Flodia [NMT/WKMG] -- A 22-year-old woman charged with shaking her baby to death has pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder and faces 25 to 50 years in prison, Orlando television station WKMG reported.

Alexandra Tobias

Alexandra Tobias was arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse and murder after her 3-month-old son, Dylan Lee Edmondson, died in January.

Prosecutors said Tobias admitted to becoming angry because the baby would not stop crying while she was playing Farmville on Facebook.

Shortly after that 911 call was made, Tobias told investigators a dog knocked her child off a couch, he hit his head and he stopped breathing. Court documents show that Tobias later admitted to shaking her baby violently because the 3-month-old would not stop crying while she was playing a game on Facebook.

Prosecutors said they also have a statement from a cellmate who said Tobias confessed to her.

In recorded telephone calls Tobias made to family members, she said the recent death of her mother affected her psychological state, and it may have been a contributing factors to her aggression on the night of her son's death, WKMG said.
